What does a SWO do?

The heart of the Navy lies with the surface fleet. You will be expected to lead a division of 15 to 20 sailors to accomplish tasks vital to our National Security. Not only will you manage individuals as a division officer but you will also train rigorously to be an effective leader while stationed on watch as Officer Of the Deck.

Make sure you have a vaild passport, Surface Warfare Officers are reknowned for their travels. A lot of the missions of surface ships are to show the flag across the world. This entails a lot of port visits where you ensure that your division conducts itself in a professional manner towards foreigners.

As a Surface Warfare Officer, managing and motivating personnel, assuming responsibility for multimillion-dollar systems and equipment and gaining valuable insight from traveling the world will provide you with experience that is invaluable to employers in the private sector.
